RBC Nursery
A fun, exciting and friendly environment where children can learn in all developmental areas
RBC Nursery
Our Nursery (sometimes known as “the Aunties”) has been part of the Rhiwbina community since 1988. Based within Rhiwbina Baptist Church and registered with Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW), we offer a welcoming, play-rich environment shaped by Christian values and a genuine love for children.
We’re passionate about creating a space where little ones feel safe, supported and excited to explore. Every child is encouraged to follow their curiosity, grow in confidence and be celebrated for who they are. Our team works closely with families to help each child thrive and reach their full potential.
What We Do
Rhiwbina Baptist Church Nursery provides sessional day care for children aged 2 years and 6 months - 5 years, between the hours of 9am - 12noon in term-time.
In addition we have a limited number of wrap-around spaces from 12 noon for the children that are attending the Rhiwbeina Primary School, afternoon Nursery session.
Established in 1988, Rhiwbina Baptist Church Nursery is CIW registered and is a welcoming, play-rich and effective learning environment in which the children can follow their curiosity and grow in all developmental areas. We seek to provide learning opportunities within a Christian environment, where we aim to:
- Motivate each child to achieve their full potential
- Encourage each child to make their own decisions to aid independence later in life
- Improve the all-round development of each child: physically, mentally, socially, emotionally and spiritually.
- Nurture relationships between home and Nursery
- Introduce children to the routine of Nursery
- Make children aware that God loves and cares for them individually
- Provide a happy caring environment where children of all needs are provided with a variety of activities to enrich their development
All staff are DBS checked, have completed appropriate Safeguarding training and are Paediatric first aid trained.
Admissions
We are open to all children from the local area and are registered for a maximum of 30 children from the ages 2 years 6 months and 5 years. Starting at 2 years 6 months may mean that your child begins nursery mid-term, alternatively they may commence at the beginning of the following term.
We do have a waiting list and children’s names can be added when they are 18 months old.
Children should be toilet trained before commencing nursery as we have no facilities for changing nappies. Children always have access to the child sized toilets and will be assisted if necessary. For children with additional needs, we will work with parents if needed.
Places will be allocated as they become available. For September spaces these will be offered around Easter time prior to the September start. A deposit is required to hold your child’s place.
Fees
The Nursery is registered with Cardiff Council for the Welsh Government’s Childcare Offer for Wales. Fees are currently £20.01 per session with an additional 94p snack per day. Wrap-around space is an additional £13.34 (£6.67 childcare element & £6.67 supervised transfer) per session (April 2025).
Wraparound Provision to Rhiwbeina Primary
We have a limited number of wraparound places available from 12 noon. This facility is intended for the children who attend Rhiwbeina Primary School in the afternoon Nursery session and advance booking is essential.
Children will need to bring their own packed lunch, and they will need a medium sized backpack, so their hands are free for us to hold when walking them over to the school.
Please Note: nuts and peanut butter must NOT be included in lunchboxes due to allergies, and grapes, tomatoes or other similar sized objects are to always be cut in half lengthways.
Curriculum
We are primarily an English-speaking Nursery, however we recognise and value the Welsh language as an integral part of the unique culture of Wales, and as a language which should be taught in our setting.
We follow a broad-based curriculum based on Welsh Government’s Curriculum for funded Non-Maintained Nursery Settings and the Early Childhood play, Learning and Care Quality Framework.
Our role is to provide authentic and engaging experiences in an effective, exciting environment that are meaningful and relevant to the children’s interests.
We’re passionate about creating a space that actively promotes listening to the voice of the child, so that we can begin to recognise and respond to the unique background and needs of each child, to make them feel safe, supported and excited to explore.
Every aspect of the Children’s play/ learning focuses on the needs of the developing child through five developmental pathways – belonging, communication, exploration, physical development and wellbeing.
